Baron: I Owe It All to Magic

As decreed by Don Nelson himself, Baron Davis is now the key to Golden State success. The man's star is as high as its been since before the Hornets left Charlotte. And no less a luminary than Magic Johnson is reminding the world that he called it all along.

San Francisco Gate has the full story of their longstanding relationship:
It seems that Baron Davis always had that look, even in his mid-teens. It wasn't just the talent, but the presence. "I didn't need to get Magic's autograph [when we first met]," Davis recalled. "It was so cool just meeting him. We got to be very close. He always followed my career, took me under his wing, showed me the nuances of the game, basically molded me into what I've become. He's a pillar of my life."
I don't really remember Magic having said much about Davis in the past, but then again, it's been a while since anyone had much to say about the guy. For Johnson and anyone who's followed Davis's career, the feeling is relief, not surprise. The Warriors guard has always had gobs of talent, and only injuries have stood in the way of his becoming a household name. The Magic comparisons might be a bit hyperbolic. Any chance, though, that Davis might follow Steve Nash's career model?
