Yao Ming has his eye on the China basketball finals. Even though he played against them for a number of years as a member of the Shangai Sharks, Yao is cheering the Bayi Rockets.Despite having a rooting interest in the tournament, Yao isn't willing to spend $10 for an Internet connection in his hotel room on the road so that he can follow the action live.
"The hotel would charge $10 for the Internet, so I didn't get it," Yao said. "I just waited for friends to call to say they lost Game 1."He's right, ten bucks for ten minutes is a lot. I certainly wouldn't pay that much. But this is Yao Ming, a guy who's making something like $12 million this year! I'm guessing he's also a huge fan of the daily per diem.
"Hey, that's not cheap. You pay $10 for 10 minutes; that's not fair. You can wait 20 hours to get home, where it's free."

1. Yao doesn't make $12 mil. 99% of that goes back to the Shanghai Sharks, who have him on an indentured contract for life.

2. In Yao's defense, it has to do with his culture. And even if you have that much money, would you let this hotel rip you off? $10 for 10 minutes is clearly a scam. Props to Yao.

4. I SAY GOOD FOR YAO. WHAT JUST BECAUSE HE HAS THE MEANS TO PAY FOR IT MEANS HE SHOULD LET SOMEONE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. I THINK IT SPEAKS HIGHLY OF HIS CHARACTER. SHOWS HE HAS SOME VALUES THAT WERE PROBABLY TAUGHT TO HIM BY HIS PARENTS. ONCE AGAIN I THINK IT IS GREAT !!!! KEEP IT UP YAO. ITS A RELIEF TO SEE A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE WITH SOME CENTS(LOL)
